FIRST Tech Challenge

Teams of middle & high school aged students design, build, and program a robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. Currently, there are over 200 teams in Iowa.

Program for Enhanced Design Experience

Senior engineering students work in conjunction with engineers from industry and University of Iowa faculty members on a design project. The goal is for students to gain experience in the design process ranging from conceptualization, to prototyping, to testing and evaluation, and to production. Students gain first hand experience in solid modeling, finite element analysis, dynamic simulation, and cost analysis. Emphasis is placed on communication skills, including written reports and periodic oral presentations.

Project Lead The Way

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) provides a transformative learning experience for K-12 students and teachers across the U.S. We create an engaging environment and empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in an evolving world. PLTW is a national STEM program found in all 50 states. The University of Iowa College of Engineering is proud to be an affiliate university since 2006.
