At the University of Iowa, we define outreach and engagement as collaboration between faculty, staff and students and diverse external groups in mutually beneficial partnerships that are grounded in scholarship and consistent with our role and missions of teaching, research and service. The following programs are a collection of the university's outreach and engagement initiatives. The Bedell Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory (BELL) is a business incubator for entrepreneurial students pursuing the creation of a startup while attending the University of Iowa. Individual students and teams in the program receive a dedicated office.
Each year, Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary accounting fraternity in the Tippie College of Business runs the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to help low and moderate income taxpayers in the Johnson County area prepare and file their taxes.

The Engineering Shop in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Department of Biology allows University of Iowa undergraduate students to complete projects and interact directly with clients for whom they work. Clients of the students include CERN Laboratory in Switzerland.

Black Girls Do Science is a one-day event encouraging minority girls in 4th-8th grade to pursue a career in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) field.
