Environmental Sustainability

Improving Environmental Performance

Projects ranging from water-quality mitigation to recycling programs, developing processes for handling brownfields to wastewater treatment are completed each year throughout the state by University of Iowa faculty and students in communities seeking ways to better protect the environment and improve the way resources are being used. Through partnerships between campus and communities, we are helping government, organizations, and business focus on improving sustainable practices in Iowa.

Our office works to match community needs with the appropriate department, college, or professor. Classes provide planning, research, and recommendations related to protecting and conserving natural resources in communities. Typically, the areas on campus working to improve environmental sustainability in communities are engineering, environmental sciences, geography, Iowa Flood Center, and urban and regional planning. Take a look, below, at projects we've completed.
