The Hawkeye Lunch & Learn lecture series aims to bring the University of Iowa out into Iowa communities, with faculty, staff, and alumni presenting their areas of expertise to engaged citizens over the noon hour. Each lecture showcases the diverse work of a passionate UI expert while increasing awareness of how Iowa citizens can collaborate with the university to create a better future for Iowans. In October, the Mobile Museum exhibit ‘German Iowa and the Global Midwest’ traveled to Glenn Ehrstine’s Des Moines lecture titled German Iowans and the Politics of Brewing.
“The invitation to present a Hawkeye Lunch & Learn lecture provided me with a welcome opportunity to engage members of the broader public regarding our campus project on “German Iowa and the Global Midwest.” The lecture has had a measurable catalyst effect, resulting in additional invitations to speak on aspects of the state’s German heritage in Davenport, Cedar Rapids, and elsewhere. It was also the perfect venue to draw attention to our 2017 traveling exhibit on German immigration to Iowa.” Glenn Ehrstine, Associate Professor of German and International Studies.
In May, Liz Tovar’s lecture titled Win. Graduate. Do It Right. was livestreamed to a national audience, and she also provided an opportunity for attendees to tour the Gerdin Athletic Learning Center in Iowa City.
